Papers, 1775-1804.

The records consist primarily of orders and accounts relating to Meredith's tanning business, involving the purchase of hides and tanbark and the disposition of finished leather. The papers also include an inventory of the old and new tanyards (1796), a labor indenture with Anthony Bennett, tannery foreman (1787), and a contract with one George Suckley for a formula for tanning leather without bark (1794). A letter from William Meredith in New York expresses concern about the 1793 yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia.
